    NOTE: 1978 was the first year of the third generation Monte Carlo. The 1978 models were a foot shorter in length and weighed nearly 800 lbs less, and was the first year a V6 was available in the Monte Carlo. This was the year that the A-body car line (Malibu) merged with the G-body cars (Monte Carlo). While the two car lines had differing sheet metal, they were the same underneath.
